UNUSED PLANS FOR THE FALTER POWERED FLYING MODEL AIRPLANE |
||||||||||||||||
This set of plans is in booklet form measuring 6 x 8-1/2 inches and containing ten internal pages of instructions with illustrations. Glued to the inside of the back cover is a 23-1/2 x 35 inch plan (folds to 5-1/2 x 8 inches) for the powered flying model aircraft called FALTER. Some parts of the structure are shown at 1:1 and others are shown at a size that must be enlarged by 2.5 times.
The FALTER was designed by Oskar Gerlach and was first built and flown in the summers of 1939 and 1940. It captured a 1st place prize with a flight of 3 minutes 3 seconds. Later, it flew for nearly 20 minutes powered by a rubber band! |

When completed the FALTER is about 36 inches long with a 55 inch wingspan. The text of the booklet explains exactly how to build the plane right down to the precise length of the rubber band needed to make it fly.
The scan directly left shows a 8-1/2 x 12-1/2 inch section of the entire 23-1/2 x 35 inch plan.
All Nationalsozialistische Flieger Korps (NSFK or National Socialist Flying Corps), members had to build and fly rubber band powered model airplanes for their logbook. Thus, unbuilt Third Reich model plans are very difficult to find 60+ years after the fact. Especially for this class of model airplane. This set of plans was published by Otto Maier Verlag in Ravensburg and is in like-new condition. |
