WORLD WAR 2 NAZI PUBLICATION ON MILITARY POLICY AND MILITARY SCIENCE - 1942

Militärwissenschaftliche Mitteilungen was the Fachzeitschrift or Official Magazine of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Wehrpolitik und Wehrwissenschaften, the ”German Association for Military Policy and Military Science” in Berlin. The mission of this Nazi organization was to inform members of the Wehrmacht on the very latest information in the field of the Armed Forces, on the home front and at the war front. They organized speeches, visual presentations and published these well-illustrated Militärwissenschaftliche Mitteilungen magazines.

This lot consists eleven issues published in the year 1942 (February is missing) by the the Vienna branch of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Wehrpolitik und Wehrwissenschaften with over 500 pages. It also includes the rare 8-page Index for the year 1942!

These publications provide a glimpse into the state of World War II - military analysis, tactics and strategy, weapons, reports from the battlefield by eyewitnesses, the war economy, advances on the battlefield, historical perspectives and army data, retrospectives about fallen heroes, as well as maps, and reviews of new military books.

In charge of content of Militärwissenschaftliche Mitteilungen was retired Infantry General and Engineer Emil Ratzenhofer and it was published Verlag Militärwissenschaftliche Mitteilungen in Vienna.

These issues include chapters about the Axis Powers during the war, the role of Bulgaria in WW2, American and British supply routes for Soviet aid, the war in the Black Sea, war production in England, the interdependence of the German war fronts, British and American naval casualties, the battles at Kertsch (eastern part of the Crimean Peninsula) and Charkow (now Kharkiv in Ukraine), the battle at the Arctic Sea, military overview of Tobruk and Marsa Matruk, military overviews of the Don Front, Sewastopol and Stalingrad, supply routes in Africa, the Dieppe Raid (the British “Landing Defeat at Dieppe”), Doctor and Soldier, Financing War, the End of the Gold Economy is Coming, Egypt, the Caucasus, the Battle for the Mediterranean, the financial problems of England, the war in the Pacific, the state funeral of Austrian Field Marshal Eduard Freiherr von Böhm-Ermolli, Field Marshal Ratzenhofer, etc., etc.

Each 6-1/8 x 9 inch softcover publication also contains advertising, largely military related. Advertisers include companies such as WKC, Auer (gas masks), DWM (ammunition), Krupp, Erste Österreichische Fahnenfabrik (Nazi swastika flags), Telefunken, Robot (military cameras), Möritz (leather boots), Henschel (military trucks), Dornier (military airplanes), Pelikan pens, Flugmotorenwerke Ostmark, Maggi spices, Nazi uniform manufacturers, etc.

It is rare to find nearly a complete year of these Nazi military publications and these 1942 issues are all complete and in very nice, little-used condition, as is the rare index. No odor.
