Handbuch der Fliegerwetterkunde translates as “Handbook of Flying Weather Science” and this is the volume covering Meßgeräte or weather measuring instruments. It was published in Berlin in 1939 and meteorologist Richard Habermehl assembled the content. Dr. Habermehl was the Head of the Nazi State Department for Weather Service (Präsident des Reichsamtes für Wetterdienst, RfW) which was part of the Reichsluftfahrtministerium of Nazi Air Ministry in Berlin. He held the rank of Major General in the Luftwaffe.
This 85 year old German hardcover book was published and printed by Gebrüder Radetski in Berlin in 1939. It is complete and in very nice used condition. The linen cover and spine is a bit faded but the book is tightly bound, and has no writing and no odor. Dr. Alfred Jelinek was the original owner and his name is stamped on the page opposite the title page.
The 6-1/8 x 8-1/4 inch book is beautifully illustrated with many examples of a large variety of specialty thermometers, barometers, weather balloons, psychrometers, hygometers, and tools to measure clouds, air speed and wind direction, etc.
The 132 glossy page book contains an overview of the measuring tools and their practical uses by pilots, air crews and people of the weather service. It has a scientific character perfect for teaching but also for weather and aviation technicians.
This Nazi technical meteorology tool handbook is offered for sale
for $85.00 delivered by Media Mail in the continental USA.
