This is a rare map and booklet titled Herrschaft von Öl und Getreide im Nahen Osten (Control of Oil and Food Production in the Near East) published by Verlag Kurt Vowinckel of Heidelberg - Berlin - Magdeburg for the Luftwaffenführungsstab Ic/VIII in 1941. The 16 x 23 inch color map accompanied the 8 page, 5-¾ x 8-¼ inch booklet.

The map shows the location of railroads, corn and several other crops as well as oil wells in southeastern Europe and the Middle East, Iran and south to the Persian Gulf as the Afrikakorps was running roughshod across the continent next door!

The text in the Herrschaft von Öl und Getreide im Nahen Osten booklet explains that Adolf Hitler has taken away power from Great Britain in western and southern Europe, but that England, America and Holland's efforts to keep control over valuable resources in the Near East is a much more difficult task.

When the information for this booklet was being compiled, transport routes through the Balkans were in German hands but longstanding English, Dutch and American contacts with local rulers in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait proved to be a big problem for Nazi Germany to expand their need for oil and other resources.

With the current developments in the Near East and Middle East, this has become very interesting historic Third Reich material!

Both the rare booklet and color map are in very good used condition.
