VERY RARE WEHRMACHT EMERGENCY LIGHT
VERY RARE NAZI LUFTWAFFE OR KRIEGSMARINE
BAIL-OUT OR CRASH LIGHT WITH BATTERY
This is a fine example of a very rare Notlampe or emergency light used by both the German Luftwaffe and the Kriegsmarine during World War II as a beacon for downed flyers and ship crews at sea in lifeboats or life preservers. |

The body of this Notlampe is made of heavy convoluted steel painted dull grey-blue. It is 52 mm (about 2-1/16 inches) in diameter and 305 mm (about 12 inches) long. The bulb at the top is covered by a heavy clear hemispherical threaded lens that has a 50 mm hexagonal flange on it |

Attached to a loop at the bottom of the lamp body is a 1 meter cord for connecting the lamp to ones body, to a boat, etc. There is a rubber bulb at the base which can be depressed, activating a switch to turn the light on and off.
The long body of this lamp accommodates the original wet battery that is part of the switch/bulb/battery assembly.
The information on the label on the side of the battery is in German of course, and says that it is an A21 ACCUMET Stahlbatterie made by the firm ACCUMET GmbH of Weiden in Thüringen. Other information on the label says it has a Ladespannung of 2.5-3.5 volts with 0.7Ah, 2.4v and will keep the bulb lit for 12 - 24 hours.

The battery (as well as the rest of this lamp) appears to be in very good condition and was probably new when the veteran we got it from brought it home. We do not know if the battery is rebuildable or can be rejuvenated. It does not contain an electrical charge now. |
