Our photos have examples of different pages of the Deutsches Reich Hotelbuch to give potential buyers an idea of the incredible detail listed about every facility in this rare 80+ year old Nazi hotel guide.

We also show the page for the fancy Bristol Hotel and Grand Hotel in Vienna (left) with photos taken of those hotels in 1938, for our reader’s reference (the pictures are not for sale with the book).
This is a very nice orange linen hardcover example of the Deutsches Reich Hotelbuch for 1 May through 30 June 1938 published by Reichsausschuss für Fremdenverkehr (State Tourism Board) in Berlin immediately after Austria voted to become a part of Großdeutschland. The rare book is in four languages (German, English, French and Italian) and lists information and prices for hotels big and small, guesthouses, as well as public and private health spas in the city of Vienna as well as all Austrian provinces: Burgenland, Kärnten, Niederösterreich, Oberösterreich, Land Salzburg, Steiermark, Tirol and Vorlarlberg which had become part of Adolf Hitler’s Greater Germany the previous month.
Spitz and der Donau (Wachau) 1938 hotels
The 5-5/8 x 8-1/8 inch hardcover book with Nazi eagle and swastika on the orange linen front cover has 488 pages and still has the frequently missing fold-out map measuring 15 x 26 inches inside the back cover. It was printed in Germany by the Waldheim-Eberle, the company that also printed many editions of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf.
Grand Hotel Wien in 1938
Bristol Hotel Wien mit Hakenkreuzfahne in 1938
A very rare Nazi 4-language hotel directory in very nice condition. It has a tight spine, is complete without any writing and has no unpleasant odor. There are a few dark spots on the back cover that show that the book spent some time in the glovebox of the car of its first owner.
Nazi hotel tax
On the same page, above the listing for the famous Sacher Hotel, is the Imperial Hotel on Kärntner Ring 16 in downtown Vienna. It is the lavish hotel where Adolf Hitler stayed when he visited Vienna at the time of the Anschluß in the spring of 1938, and Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler later made it the SS Headquarters in Wien.
