The Obertruppmann Rock or tunic is unissued - it still has the original paper tag of the manufacturer, Uniformfabrik Franz Fiedler of Trier and Saarbrücken, sewed inside the right lapel.
The size is clearly indicated on the paper tag giving measurements for all the variable parts.
It is identical to the uniform jacket shown in the drawing at the right, taken from the Third Reich Reinwart Fire Equipment catalog (not for sale).
The shoulder boards are those of a Feuerschutz Obertruppmann and there are two aluminum buttons above the vent in the center of the back.
The 1-pip shoulder boards and the collar tabs are woven with silver metallic thread.
The 3-1/4 x 4 inch woven insignia on the left sleeve shows that the uniform was made for the Fire Department of the small town of Homburg in between Kaiserslautern and Saarbrücken near the French border.
The buttons are marked with the RZM logo and the number M5/314 which denotes Paul Brüder of Tyssa bei Bodenbach in the Sudetenland.
This Nazi tunic has been stored in a cedar chest in the low humidity climate of the Black Hills of southwestern South Dakota for the last 60+ years. It appears to be in perfect condition. We can find no holes, no mothing, and of course there is no wear.
If you need an outstanding example of a Third Reich Feuerschutz Rock, this is it.
The jacket is fully lined, has one inside pocket inside the left breast and four outside pockets. The breast pockets are of the patch type with buttoned flaps and the lower pockets are slash pockets with buttoned flaps. Sleeve length = 24-1/2 inches, shoulder width = 16 inches, collar to hem 27-1/2 inches.
