IN KASSEL IN 1939

This is an extremely historic piece of important Third Reich flag or standard material in very good condition. It is a die-stamped piece of golden metal measuring about 2-3/4 by 3-1/4 inches in size and shaped to fit on a flag or standard pole about 45 mm (1-3/4 inches) in diameter. It has two holes along each side for attaching it to the pole with nails.

The image on the deep-relief commemorative metal plaque (Fahnenstange Abzeichen) depicts and eagle and swastika with crossed swords and a black Iron Cross on its breast (the emblem of the Reichskriegerbund) at the top.

Framed in a horseshoe shaped wreath of oak leaves are the figures of Nazi Party Führer and German Chancellor, Adolf Hitler, and Generalfeldmarschall Hermann Göring saluting an endless column of marching uniformed flag bearers. Below that image are the words GROßDEUTSCHER REICHSKRIEGERTAG Kassel 1939.

The device commemoratees the monumental gathering of German veterans and service men at Kassel, Germany in 1939 for the First Greater-German State War Veterans Day. Leaders of the Nation, the SS, Wehrmacht and other organizations gathered to pay tribute to all German veterans. Because of the beginning of World War II, no other Reichskriegertage were held.
