This is a splendid, beautifully made heavy russet leather Nazi marked First Aid kit or pouch measuring about 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 8 inches (11 x 11 x 20 cm) that appears to be unissued.
The First Aid kit is made to be worn on a wide belt using the loops attached on the back. These loops are secured by studs on the bottom. On each end there are studs to secure the straps attached to each end of the top.
The top opens forward - away the wearer - for access to the contents, and a list of the contents is printed on a paper label glued inside the top. The label describes the kit as a Luftschutz Sanitätstasche or Air Raid Medics Pouch.
On the right end of the back outside of the top an eagle and swastika and the lower case letters dmx are pressed into the leather. Our pictures show the case and its condition perfectly.
When we bought this medical case in Germany recently it still contained two pieces of the original contents:
1) an original 1938 book containing 25 Wundzettel or "Wound Tags" to be filled in and attached to the clothing of a wounded soldier or civilian by the first medic to treat him or her, and
2) an original 1939 package of Baldriantinktur (an herbal tincture similar to Valerian that has a calming, relaxing effect on the user), unopened and still in its original corrugated tube. Over the decades much of the Baldriantinktur must have evaporated through the cork as only about 10% remains in the unopened brown glass bottle. Excellent original condition and perfect for a uniform display or as a museum display piece.
