Denkmäler der Gemeinschaft (Monuments of the Community) is a fine Third Reich photo book about community construction projects in Traditionsgau München-Oberbayern (Nazi Party District Munich-Upper Bavaria) authorized by the Nazi Gauleiter, Adolf Wagner. His photo is the second one in this book, above a quote about working for the common good, not just talking about it. Gemeinschaftsarbeit, work done by the community for the betterment of the National Socialist Movement is the central focus of this book.
Denkmäler der Gemeinschaft is heavily illustrated with big black & white and some color photographs of Nazi construction projects such as bridges, roads, Hitler Youth homes, fire stations, sport facilities, shooting ranges, updating of sewer systems, walking paths, etc.
Photos show construction workers in towns, in the woods and on fields, digging with shovels, pouring concrete, Nazi dignitaries opening new roads, foundation stones with swastikas, war monuments topped with eagles, children enjoying new swimming pools, runners in a new sport arena, new schools and community homes, exterior and interior views of new HJ-Homes in Kranzberg, Landsberg, Gauting, Burghausen, Schondorf, Bad Tölz and other towns, as well as newly built schools run by the NSV, etc.
As an "example for all communities", the construction projects are listed by location in the back of Denkmäler der Gemeinschaft, complete with the cost. For example, the new HJ-Heim in Landsberg was built for 90,800 Reichsmarks, new sport facilities in Bad Wiessee cost RM 1880, a path along the Chiemssee RM 600, a new roll call square in Bad Tölz cost RM 20,000, etc.
This 9-3/8 x 11-3/4 inch hardcover example of Denkmäler der Gemeinschaft has 84 pages, and the tan cloth covers have the title and a big Nazi eagle and swastika embossed in red on the front cover. It was published by the Amt fur Kommunalpolitik des Traditionsgaues München-Oberbayern under the supervision of Gauamtsleiter Dr. Karl Sudholt.
The famous Nazi publisher F. Bruckmann KG of Munich was in charge of the overall production. The book is not dated, but a photo of a foundation stone has the date 1938 on it, so we know it was published circa 1939.
This example is complete, including the first full-page photo in the book of Adolf Hitler shaking hands with a laborer. This 80+ year old Third Reich photo book is in nice used condition, and it has no offensive odor. The Nazi eagle and swastika stamp of Der Landrat Ansbach is on the front cover, front fly leaf and following page. Apparently it was part of their library.
