This is a complete example of the Nazi art magazine Die Kunst im deutschen Reich ("The Arts in the German Reich"), the July 1942 Ausgabe A issue as produced by the Zentralverlag der NSDAP, the Central Publishing House of the Nazi Party, Franz Eher of Munich.
The magazine was large in size (11 x 14 inch), huge is scope and right to the end (Fall 1944) it was published at the direction of Chancellor Adolf Hitler himself by Zentralverlag der NSDAP, Franz Eher Nachfolger on fine quality paper using the best available inks. It was under the supervision of an extremely prestigious group of directors that included Reichsminister Professor Albert Speer of Berlin, Professor Richard Klein of the Academy of Applied Arts in München and Professor Leonhard Gall of Studio Troost in Munich.
Huge full-page, full-color and black & white photographs dominated the format of Die Kunst im Deutschen Reich. Many of the pictures were never published elsewhere and none were published in a larger format.
This 26-page issue has a special article on the Arno Breker sculpture exhibition at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Nazi-occupied Paris from 15 May - 31 July 1942. Often referred to as the “Michelangelo of the Third Reich”, this Nazi art magazine has many examples of Breker’s fine work including 8 tipped-in color pictures of heroic nude sculptures and a Richard Wagner bust. These tipped-in color images were often removed during the Third Reich to be displayed and /or framed, but this 80 year old example of Die Kunst im deutschen Reich still has all eight of them!
Another article covers the Münchener Kunstausstellung 1942, the fifth anniversary of the Munich Art Exhibition in the Maximilianeum with color and black & white illustrations of art by Leo Samberger, Ludwig Angerer, Emilia von Hallavanya, Hans Schlereth, Eberhard Riegele, Maria Hoffmann, Erwin Knirr, Hubert Lang and others. The magazine ends with an article about 19th century murals by Alfred Rethel.
This 80 year old Nazi art magazine Die Kunst im deutschen Reich has a slightly discolored cover, but it is complete and in very nice used condition. It has no writing and no offensive odor.
This fine July 1942 Arno Breker Kunst magazine is ** SOLD **
