This is a fine original World War II publication by the Luftfahrt Lehrbücherei (Aviation Education Library) in Berlin. It is Band 1 (Volume 1) titled Die Wartung des Flugzeuges which translates as “The Maintenance of Airplanes”. The 328 pages have 236 illustrations and many statistical tables. The book also has two Falttafeln or fold-out tables which look like they have never been unfolded.
The text was assembled by several flight engineers mentioned on the title page (above). Chapters cover maintenance of every part of airplanes, from steering columns to the undercarriage, to the fuselage, propellors, and the tailplane rudder. Engines are covered in great detail as well as hydraulics, instruments and wiring.
The images and detailed illustrations are superb! They include swastika tail markings, airplane tires, airplane instruments, propellors, towing lines, individual sections of fuselages, screws and rivets holding the fuselage together, steering controls, hydraulic systems, levers and cranks, gasoline tanks and lines, lubricant attachments, temperature gauges, radio interference, short and long wave radio equipment, and much, much more.
There are Prüfungen or examination sections, as well as examples of Fehlerquellen (sources of defects) and solutions to avoid mistakes. Companies like Messerschmitt, Askania, Telefunken, Toran and others have advertising for their airplane engines, tires, instruments, parts, etc. in this fine heavily illustrated 83 year old World War II airplane maintenance handbook. Fundamental for anyone interested in German Third Reich aviation!
The slightly stained front cover of this rare 5-¾ x 8-¼ inch Luftwaffe blue airplane maintenance handbook has a red stamp with the warning that it should only be used in the service, and that it was not for public consumption. It was published in 1941 by Dr. M. Matthiesen & Co. of Berlin.
Die Wartung des Flugzeuges is in very nice, used condition complete with its rare 20+ inch fold-out tables. It has no handwriting in it and no odor.
This 1941 Nazi airplane maintenance handbook is for sale for
