This is an old leather German attaché case that we purchased in Germany many years ago from a lady from whom we also bought a SS visor cap. We were told by the lady that all the pieces were “movie props” but we bought them anyway as perfect curios that we thought might fit nicely in someone’s collection or display.

We can’t even prove that this old black leather briefcase was used in a TV program about the Wannsee Conference, but it would certainly have looked the part. The front of the locking bag is deeply and beautifully embossed with a SS eagle about 3-¾ inches (90 mm) long clutching a wreath and swastika, with the letters RF and SS runes below the eagle’s wings.

The nickel plated brass lock opens by pushing down on the locking bezel, and works well. We do not have a key for the lock but we would guess it should be a relatively easy mater to buy one or have one made.

The black leather is moderately worn but quite supple, and the case is in usable condition. It would look perfect as part of a uniform or other display and we offer it as a curio for that sort of purpose.

It is difficult to find a photo of anybody standing still with a briefcase in Third Reich Germany, (especially after 20 July 1944) probably for security reasons.

For reference purposes the previously unpublished photo here shows an adjutant with a similar briefcase (in motion) as Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini get off the train at Rastenburg.
