Narvik Sieg des Glaubens (Narvik - Victory of Faith) by Werner Fantur is a 5-¾ x 9 inch, 174 page hardcover book about the ferocious two-month battle in the northern part of Norway and ultimate German victory at Narvik in April 1940. It has a Preface by General Eduard Dietl. The first photo in this book is of Generalleutnant Dietl, commander of the Gebirgsjäger, who is called der Sieger von Narvik.
This example of Narvik - Sieg des Glaubens was a "get well soon" gift, probably to a wounded soldier by the NSDAP Kreisleitung Kalenberg (Hannover) in November 1941.
Chapters cover the German troop transports to northern Norway, the battle on land and sea, the different German troops involved in the battle for Narvik, "British prestige", prisoners, etc.
Photos show Nazi Fallschirmjäger landing in the snow, Luftwaffe airplanes in the sky, Wehrmacht patrols crossing raging mountain creeks, troops on skis, troops wearing white camouflage, mine railways and Narvik in rubble "after British shelling".
It is interesting to note that many photos are labeled Privataufnahme meaning they were not taken by war correspondents or photo agency photographers. Many are close-up photos of Werhmacht troops on the go, not found in other Third Reich books on the Norwegenfeldzug. One of these "private photos" is of General Dietl talking with other German officers and regular Kriegsmarine men in the background, in the harbor of Narvik.
There is also an overview map of the area showing the fjords and mountainous terrain around Narvik as well as OKW reporting on the battle in northern Norway.
Published by Junker und Dünnhaupt Verlag Berlin in 1941, this 77 year old book is in nice used condition with its original Gebirgsjäger dust jacket which has yellowed with age. Complete, no odor.
