The story of the American flier Kenneth D. Williams shot down over Germany on 26 November 1943 is legendary. Williams, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was a 21 year old crewman of a US 8th Air Force B17 that bore the nose art name “Murder Inc.” and he had that name painted on the back of his leather A-2 flight jacket.
Nazi newspaper Murder Inc.
When Williams’ plane was shot down near Eggese, Germany on a Bremen bomb run, he was captured. The name on his leather A2 flight jacket proved to be a propaganda sensation in Germany. He and his jacket artwork were photographed and circulated around the world by German Propaganda Minister Dr. Joseph Goebbels. Hitler condemned the “terror bombing of [innocent German] women and children” by the Americans, and the use of such “gangster language” on the uniform of a soldier.

The historic newspaper we offer here is the complete 6-page, 13 x 19 inch issue of Wednesday 23 December 1943 of the ,,Volks-Bote’’ (People’s Messenger), a Nazi party daily published for readers on the east side of München (Munich). Williams and his leather A2 flight jacket were front page headline news. Other news that day included an article stating that German troops south of Kirowograd had knocked out an amazing 412 Soviet tanks in only two days of heavy combat.

A rare and historic old Nazi newspaper in good condition.
