Offered for sale on this USMBOOKS web page are two rare original examples of Kikeriki dated 21 March 1926 and 28 August 1927. The text and many of the illustrations in both 11-½ x 16 inch, 8-page satirical newspapers are very anti-Jewish. The illustration on the front page of the March 1926 example of Kikeriki shows a Jew in business attire seeding a farm field and swastikas sprouting up! The poem under the illustration starts with “The Jew is not a farmer!” The illustration on the front page of the August 1927 newspaper shows a Jew selling a suit with a big bug on it in “Jew Alley”.

Articles are anti-American, anti-British, anti League of Nations, and cover the Jewish influence on the press, class hatred and unfair societal differences. The newspapers also contain advertising for things like poison gas for vermin, schedules for movies and other entertainment, personal ads, and a crossword puzzle.

The Kikeriki (Cock-a-doodle-do) was a satirical newspaper published in Vienna. Founded in 1861, it became very anti-Semitic in tone at the time Karl Luger was mayor of Vienna (Hitler was an admirer of Luger and cited him in Mein Kampf). From the mid-1920s onward the newspaper aligned itself politically with the Austrian Nazi Party, the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei Österreichs. In January 1933, when the National Socialists were elected to power in Germany, this connection to the Hitlerbewegung caused Kikeriki to be banned by the Austrian government under Chancellor Engelbert Dolfuß.
