This concert, commissioned by the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht (OKW), was called Richard-Strauß-Feier, commemorating the famous composer's 80th birthday on 11 June 1944, just a few days after D-Day in Normandy! No location or date is printed in this rare concert program for military personnel, no doubt for security reasons.

The Richard-Strauß-Feier concert was directed by Otto Müller and beautiful German soprano Willa Briem was accompanied by the Bulgarian musician Vesco d'Orio, German horn player Martin Ziller and Spanish pianist José Arriola.

This original World War II, 5-7/8 x 8-1/4 inch, 4-page program has information about the career and works of Richard Strauss written by Dr. Herbert Biehle and the logo of the KdF is printed on the back.

Printed in Berlin in black and light blue ink on tan paper, and in very good original condition, exactly as shown.

This is a rare program for a concert for members of the Wehrmacht or Armed Forces, organized by the NS-Gemeinschaft Kraft durch Freude (KdF or Strength through Joy), which was part of the Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF or German Labor Front) of Dr. Robert Ley. Most people are familiar with their leisure and travel programs for German workers, but they also had a USO-type section called the Truppenbetreuung der KdF or "Troop-Care Units". Among other things, the KdF Truppenbetreuung brought Front Theater to German troops everywhere (see reference photo below).
