This is a fine original example of the heavily illustrated Reichsjugendführung publication called Junge Heimat (Young Homeland), produced for youngsters in KLV-Lager.
The Kinderlandverschickung (KLV) was a World War II Nazi program (similar to those in Britain) that evacuated German children from big cities to the countryside for safety and health reasons. The KLV was affiliated with the Hitler Youth and this publication was produced for the Nazi Reichsjugendführung, the HJ Leadership, by Oberbannführer Dabel.
This 5-¾ x 8-¼ inch, 60 page issue of Junge Heimat even contains an original (often missing or used) Schnittmuster or cutting and sewing pattern for a KLV-Lagerschuh (barracks slippers) and instructions on how to assemble them.
These publications to inform, educate and entertain children at Kinderlandverschickung camps were never intended to last! This rare 77 year old example of Junge Heimat however, is in very nice condition and looks like it was never read. Nothing has been cut out, no writing, no odor.
This is Issue number 2 of 1944 with stories, puzzles, brainteasers, riddles, and songs for the Lesestunde or reading hour. Many of the stories are war related and written (and illustrated) by soldiers serving at the front. One is about Wehrmacht Pioniere clearing minefields, another is about fighting partisans, and one is about tank battles. There is a report about Generaloberst Heinz Guderian visiting a KLV camp, a story about scenic Oberbayern, a trip to the circus and feeding children in KLV camps.
This rare heavily illustrated 1944 issue of Junge Heimat is offered for
sale for $55.00 delivered by Media Mail in the continental USA.
