This is an excellent example of the very rare 1940, 1941 or 1942 book (published without a publication date), portrait, map and organization chart for the large grocery conglomerate Julius Meinl AG of Wien (Vienna, the second largest city in Hitler's Greater Germany). Julius Meinl was an old Jewish family business at the time of the Anschluß or reunification of Austria with Nazi Germany in 1938. Julius Meinl II ran the company and greatly expanded it during the Third Reich until his death in 1944.
The beautifully printed 9 x 9-1/4 inch, 36-page Third Reich book Das Haus Meinl (The House of Meinl) has a large fold-out organizational chart showing Generalkonsul Julius Meinl II at the top and running divisions from the huge Alt Prerau Agricultural Corporation to Julius Meinl d.d. in Zagreb. The capital is indicated as well as the Meinl family ownership, generally 100%.
In elegant text and with maps and duotone illustrations, the book explains the company's holdings in Vienna, the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Rumania, Generalgouvernement Poland, Slovakia as well as franchise retail outlets.
There is a very nice duotone portrait of Julius Meinl II, the CEO of the company, an excellent map of the layout of the headquarters of Meinl in Vienna (very rare, shown directly below) and a large two-color sheet of photos showing various aspects of the Meinl business from their milking parlors and wine cellars to their trucking, printing and packaging divisions.
This is extremely historical material that hasn't been seen in public for many, many decades, and essential to any intellectual study of how independent businesses (even ones owned by Jewish families) interfaced and sometimes thrived under the over-organized government of Nazi Germany.
This very rare example of Das Haus Meinl is in very good used condition.
Shown left is a page from an original Nazi Arbeitsbuch or Employment Record of a Julius Meinl company employee - not for sale.
