This is an unusual and very informative 1939 hardcover photo book called the Jahrbuch der Reichshauptstadt or Yearbook of the Nation's Capital, an annual publication for the capital of Nazi Germany, Berlin. The information for the yearbook was assembled by Georg Birk and Gerd Daenell and it was published by Verlag für Kultur- und Wirtschaftswerbung in Berlin.

After a foreword by Reichsminister Gauleiter Dr. Joseph Goebbels and Deputy Berlin Gauleiter Görlitzer the book contains heavily illustrated chapters about the history of Berlin, Berlin as the organizational center of Nazi Germany, new construction in the Reichshauptstadt, Berlin and Press Information About It, Physical Education and Sport Facilities in and around the city, Tourism and Health Care in Berlin, Industry in Berlin, the Berlin Police (written by SA-Obergruppenführer Polizeipräsident Graf v. Helldorf), Health Care in Berlin (written by Dr. Conti), Culture and Art, new Exhibition Facilities and Theaters, and so on. The logistics of electricity, fire fighting, water and feeding the huge city of about 4 million people as well as the DAF, banking, scientific discoveries, beer brewing, etc., etc., etc.

This 7 x 10 inch, 334 page Third Reich book contains superb photos of the architectural model of the New Reichschancellery and the new Italian Embassy, Tempelhof Airport ("The Aviation Crossroads of Europe") as well as photos of models for the Army Institute, OKH, the new National Tourist Office.

Other photos include Dr. Goebbels' Propaganda Ministry, Hitler Youth Homes, the Berlin zoo and harbor, Unter Den Linden avenue with massive Nazi eagle and swastika decorations, new Reichsautobahn bridges in the city decorated with Nazi eagles and swastikas, Konditorei Kranzler on the corner of Unter Den Linden and Friedrichstrasse, etc., etc.

There is a full-page ad by IG Farben which shows their new administrative office in downtown Berlin (shown above). Other advertisers include Siemens, AEG, the NSV, Blaupunkt, Triumph, the German Opera House and State Theater, AWAG, Auer, Maggi, banks, jewelers, breweries, printing companies, restaurants and bars, etc.

The book is fully indexed (in the center of the book) and is in very good used condition.
