Adolf Hitler Close-Up, Jochen von Lang, Heinrich Hoffmann
Hitler, SS Christmas
This hardcover book Adolf Hitler Close-Up contains 224 pages with photos from the archive of Hitler’s personal photographer Heinrich Hoffmann and text compiled by German journalist and author Jochen von Lang who was present, and made notes, during many of Hitler’s after-dinner monologues at the Führerhauptquartier in East Prusia. Also included are interviews with people who spent time with Hitler at various times and other locations such as the Berghof. People who saw Hitler in private, small company away from the spotlight.

Many of the pictures in Adolf Hitler Close-Up do not appear in other publications about Adolf Hitler or the Third Reich.
Above, a photo taken of Hitler and his dog Blondi
during a hike near the Berghof. The young woman in
the background is Henrietta von Schirach, wife of
Hilter Youth Führer Baldur von Schirach, who was
the daughter of Hitler's personal photographer
Heinrich Hoffmann!
The pictures show the interior of Hitler’s headquarters on wheels, Hitler’s bedroom at his Felsennest HQ near Munstereiffel, the Wolfsschanze HQ in East Prussia, at Compiègne, Hitler with old comrades at the Bürgerbraükeller in Munich, Hitler in Rome and Paris, Hitler and Mussolini on the East Front, Hitler after the 20 July 1944 assassination attempt, and pictures taken during the last months of Hitler’s life in the Führerbunker below the Reichschancellery in Berlin.

There are many images from in and around the Berghof on the Obersalzberg (including a rare one of Hitler with his godchild Edda Göring), and Hitler with Nazi dignitaries at Schloss Klessheim on the outskirts of Salzburg.

Other ‘up close’ photos show Hitler with Martin Bormann, Hermann Goering, General Keitel, Dr. Fritz Todt, Rudolf Hess, Julius Streicher, Dr. Robert Ley, Max Axmann, Alfred Rosenberg, Joseph Goebbels, Erwin Rommel, Otto Meissner, Press Chief Dietrich, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, Adjutant Schaub, Geli Raubal, driver Julius Schreck, secretaries Daranowski and Wolff, etc.
Above, a rare Hoffmann photograph of Adolf Hitler with early Nazi confidants Adolf Wagner,
Franz Xaver Schwarz and Philipp Bouhler.
This 8-½ x 10-½ inch hardcover English language book Adolf Hitler Close-Up came out in 1973 and this example is in nice used condition. The spine is tight, it has no odor but there is tape residue to the front and back black linen covers and part of a library check-out card remains on the front fly leaf.
