This original 9-3/4 x 12-1/2 inch embossed color print of Haus Wachenfeld is probably almost 80 years old. The print is still in its original frame with its original taping on the back and was probably sold on the Obersalzberg to visitors who came to see where the Führer lived when not at work.
Hitler purchased Haus Wachenfeld with profits from his book Mein Kampf and lived in it as he bought it (as you see it in this print) until after he became Chancellor of Germany in 1933. He then vastly expanded Haus Wachenfeld and renamed it the Berghof because of its position high on a mountainside at Obersalzberg above the Bavarian town of Berchtesgaden.
The print bears the signature of W. Foy and all of the paint brush strokes are embossed on the surface of the paper on which the print is printed. Close up it looks like an original oil color painting. The realistic style of painting, the mountains and the coloration are all very typical of the area on the Obersalzberg and the goldish-silver frame is extremely typical of the popular frames of the period.
Exhibited on most walls this picture would pass for any cabin the mountains almost anywhere, but for those familiar with Haus Wachenfeld and the Obersalzberg, there is no question whatsoever that it is a rare picture of Hitler's alpine mountain home. Good used condition.
