History readers are aware that Adolf Hitler considered many modern amusements in Germany in the 1920s and early 1930s to be degenerate and lots of them were eliminated when the Nazis came to power. The two magazines we offer here were clearly not the stuff that Hitler was reading, but they are excellent examples of popular German language literature in the immediate pre-Nazi days.
This lot consists of one example of the 9-1/4 x 12 inch, very heavily illustrated 68 page magazine Die Bühne (The Stage) a magazine for theater, literatuure, film, fashion, art and sport for 10 September 1925. The pictures and articles tend toward the very sensational - things like tattoos on women, pictures of movie and theater stars, an examination of what goes on in a bar in a cave, etc.
Historic stuff about Germany and Austria in the days that the Nazi Party was fighting for power. Good used condition.
The other magazine is the 6-3/4 x 9-1/2 inch, very heavily illustrated 108 page September 1930 magazine Revue des Monats (Review of the Month) which covers a somewhat wider subject matter, but still centered on nude women, strange behavior, automobiles, and photography. Lots of ads for sexually oriented products and a very interesting article on the state of the British Army.
