Geschichte der Luftfahrt (History of Aviation) is an in-depth look at the history of aviation by Dr. Walther Hoffstaetter.

The 5 x 6-7/8 inch softcover book has 124 glossy pages with illustrated chapters about early aviation, international and German aviation milestones and records, aviation as an instrument of war, Gustav Lilienthal's flapping-wing aircraft, the Wright Brothers, Blériot and Farman airplanes, German aviator Gustav Basser after his Record Duration Flight on 24 June 1914 (18 hours and 10 minutes), aviation during World War I, Allied restrictions on German military aviation after WWI, subsequent German airplane development, the development of civilian aviation, aviation in Germany after 1933 and aviation statistics up to 1937, including the founding of the NS-Fliegerkorps (NSFK) on 17 March 1937, headed by World War I flying ace and recipient of the Pour Le Mérite, Generalleutnant Friedrich Christiansen.

The 108 wonderful illustrations in Geschichte der Luftfahrt include early experimental balloons and airplanes, LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin, LZ 29 Hindenburg and other zeppelins, aviation pioneers Wolfgang Klemperer, Gustav Basser and Günther Groenhoff, German World War I aviation heroes Manfred and Lothar von Richthofen, Max Immelmann and Oswald Boelcke, a World War I airplane machine gun, female Flugkapitän Hanna Reitsch, as well as many airplanes such as the Heinkel He 111, Me 109, Dornier Do 17, Do 19 and Do 24, Focke Wulf Condor, Blohm & Voss Nordmeer sea plane, Junkers mail planes, etc.

Geschichte der Luftfahrt was published by Walther de Gruyter & Co. in Berlin and has advertising for many of their other technical educational books relating to aviation inside the front and back covers (including these titles).

This 85+ year old Third Reich aviation book is in very nice, little-used condition and has no odor. The cover has lightly faded over the years but the content is in superb condition!
