For sale on this USMBOOKS web page is the beautiful 9-1/2 x 12-3/8 inch, 124 page hard cover book Fritz von Graevenitz - Werden und Werk. Published in Stuttgart by Verlag Silberburg in 1939, this heavily illustrated book gives a comprehensive look in to the work of painter and sculptor Fritz von Graevenitz who at the time was a professor at the Academy of Visual Art of Stuttgart, and also ran the institute.

Fritz von Graevenitz (1892 - 1959) became an artist after his service as an officer in World War I. He was very much admired by Adolf Hitler who put him on a special list of "God-Gifted National Socialist" artists (Gottbegnadeten-Liste der nationalsozialistischen Künstler, created by Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels in 1944, it also included other artists such as Arno Breker, Josef Thorak, Leonhard Gall, Claus Bergen, Joseph Wackerle, Hermann Giesler, musicians Richard Strauss, Wilhelm Furtwängler and Herbert von Karajan, and actors Willy Fritsch, Hans Albers, etc.).

Today the Fritz von Graevenitz Museum is run by the Fritz von Graevenitz Foundation in the city of Stuttgart.

This high-quality oversized book has 46 full-page plates showing the superb creations of von Graevenitz: a 1935 bust of Adolf Hitler, busts of children, sculptures of animals (including a marble horse from the Reichs Education Ministry in Berlin), enormous statues of Wehrmacht soldiers, bronze nudes, World War I war dead memorials, fountains, bronze wall plaques, and his rarely seen, enormous Hoheitsadler, a large bronze Nazi eagle and swastika with a wingspan of nearly 20 ft (6 meters) on a square in Königsberg (our top photo above).

The book has an introduction by Helmuth Seible, as well as von Graevenitz poems and small segments of his World War I diary. It is in very good condition with a dedication in pencil from Christmas 1942 on the front flyleaf.
