Deutsche Hauptstädte München, Nürnberg, Berlin, Hamburg (German Capitals - Munich, Nuremberg, Berlin, Hamburg) is a 8 x 8-3/4 inch, 120 page undated (probably 1940 or 1941) softcover book designed by the Deutches Propaganda-Atelier in Berlin and published by the Reichsbahnzentrale für den deutschen Reiseverkehr in Berlin. It beautifully highlights the four cities, their history, culture, as well as modern developments after the Nazis came to power.
The book starts with
Munich, Capital of the Nazi Movement and the full-page photos show the huge Bavaria monument, Nymphenburg palace, the Frauenkirche, the
Deutsches Museum on the Isar River, the Bavarian Army Museum, the Nazi Honor Temples and the Führerbau on the Königsplatz, the House of German Art, the Feldherrnhalle, modern housing for indsutry workers, the Zugspitze near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Hitler in an open Mercedes-Benz on the
Reichsautobahn and new Mangfallbrücke on the freeway to Salzburg, the
Berghof, and more.
Historical buildings in the section on
Stadt der Reichsparteitage, Nürnberg (City of Nazi Party Days, Nuremberg) include the Frauenkirche on Adolf-Hitler-Platz (square),
der Henkersteg, the medieval city walls and gates, artwork by famous citizen Albrecht Dürer, beautiful half-timbered houses and of course the huge
Ehrentribune on the Zeppelinfeld and other facilities on the
Nazi Party Days Grounds, etc.
The section on Reichshauptstadt Berlin starts with the Brandenburg Gate and Unter den Linden and includes Tempelhof Airport, the New Reichschancellery, the Olympic Stadium and the Dietrich Eckart Stage, the Propaganda Ministry on Wilhelmplatz, the Berlin City Palace, Pergamon Museum, Sanssouci at Potsdam, etc.
The habor facilities of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg are shown in many photos as well as the beautiful Rathaus, huge bridge over the Elbe River, the ocean liner Europa, Kriegsmarine educational sailing ships, submarines and the new battleship Deutschland. There are pictures of Kriegsmarine sailors on parade, new military barracks and the huge Bismarck memorial, etc.
Many of the famous and historical sights shown in this book were destroyed during World War II. The spine has been scotch taped, but otherwise the book is in very nice used condition.
