This is a nice example of the very rare 10-1/4 x 13-3/4 inch, 92 page stiff softcover Olympic book Wappen und Flaggen (Shields and Flags) as published by Sultan Zigarettenfabrik Aurelia Ernst Karl Muller of Dresden, Germany during the Olympic year of 1936.

The 149 gorgeous embossed color cigarette cards in this book each measure about 2 x 2-1/2 inches, and in addition to a wonderful selection of Nazi military and civilian flags, depict Olympic medals, marathon helmet and torch, and the Wappen or shields of previous Olympic cities and German cities with populations between about 5000 and four million. Unlike the cards in many other albums of this type, these cigarette cards are not only beautifully printed but carefully embossed to give them a three-dimensional appearance.

The flag portion contains Nazi flags of every type from the Führerstandarte to the various military standards. The city shields shown in the book include those of large cities like Berlin, Dresden and Nürnberg as well as those of smaller cities like Berchtesgaden, Allenstein and Ratibor.

A small part of the upper right corner of the front cover is torn away as is the lower right corner of the last page, featuring a photograph of the Olympic track at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. There is a single card missing from this album (the Wappen of Potsdam) and it is possible that it was missing from the cigarette card set since there is no glue to show that a card was ever pasted in spot number 327. All the cards in the album are in better condition (very good condition) than the picture of the front cover might indicate. Most collectors have never seen this album.
