This is an original example of the book Raubstaat England (Predatory England), a cigarette card album published by Cigaretten Bilderdienst Hamburg, Germany in 1941. It is from the 501 - 700,000 printing run and is complete with all - neatly glued in - color and black & white pictures. The 9-¼ x 12-¼ inch book has 129 pages with 125 pictures, 25 in color as well as several color maps. Picture vary in size between about 120 x 170 mm (4-¾ x 6-¾ inches) to 80 x 115 mm (3-1/8 x 4-1/2 inches), many of the larger size.

We can’t think of another German Third Reich book in which the text and pictures are so extremely anti-British! Chapters depict the “Pioneers of Freedom” as greedy traders and pirates throughout the ages, during war and peace time, always profiting from all their colonies without the slightest regard for the local population. Queen Elizabeth, King Henry, King George, Sir Francis Drake, Oliver Cromwell, Queen Victoria, Lord Kitchener, Cecil Rhodes and many other well-known English historical figures are called hypocrites and much more. British rule in Ireland is shown in a particularly negative way. Barbaric methods of the British on their colonial Caribbean islands, war with the Spanish, Dutch and French and their leading role in the worldwide slave trade are also covered.

The cover of this 81 year old example of Raubstaat England shows use but the internal pages are in very nice condition and all the pictures have been glued into the book neatly. Complete, no odor.

Color and black & white images highlight all these subjects. Many show the mistreatment of slaves, public hangings in India and South Africa, British concentration camps in South Africa, rubble in Egypt as a result of enforcement of the British “culture mission”, the British role in the opium trade with China, murder of indigenous people in Australia, the crew of Zeppelin L 19 abandoned by the British at sea, etc., etc.

The last chapter of Raubstaat England predicts the downfall of the British Empire, the end of their influence in Palestine and the oil-rich Middle East. According to the text in the last paragraph, the words of the Adolf Hitler have created inner strength and unity in the people of Germany. Every order of the Führer has inspired determination in members of the Wehrmacht. With this resolve British plutocracy will end, British exploitation of the world will end, and the victory of socialist ideas will result in a fair, just order in Europe and in the whole world.

There are also chapters about German colonial possessions in Africa prior World War II; Deutsch-Südwest Afrika, Deutsch-Ost Afrika, Kamerun and Togo and their industries. This part of Raubstaat England also highlights the different approach of German colonization with schools for native children and humane treatment of the local population. German colonization methods are said to be a shining example and “will never have to be apologized for!”
