This 5-¾ x 8-1/8 inch, 120 page softcover book, BERCHTESGADEN - MOUNTAINS, CUSTOMS AND LEGENDS was printed by the Munich Military Post of the US Army Berchtesgaden Recreation Area for English speaking visitors to and residents of the Berchtesgaden Land, the beautiful alpine region around the famous village of Berchtesgaden.
In the August 1949 Preface, many attractions are highlighted: the famous 7200 ft Watzmann for mountain climbers, lovely Lake Königssee for boating enthusiasts and fishermen, the healthy climate, flora, fauna and Third Reich history.
The book ends with a chapter on the US Berchtesgaden Recreation Area in existence since October 1945. Services offered, hotel and billeting options, summer and winter sport and entertainment facilities, organized excursions to the Eagle's Nest, castles and salt mines in the area.
The book contains many black & white photos and is fully indexed in the back. This 67 year old example of Berchtesgaden: Mountains, Customs and Legends is complete and in very nice condition.
This guidebook contains historical and geographical details, information about native costumes for men and women, many "things to do", highway, public and tour transportation, hiking Berchtesgaden National Park, and the history of the Obersalzberg.
