5 Jahre Arbeit für Führer und Volk is a very interesting publication about the activities of the National Socialist War Veteran’s Association and the War Victims Office of the Nazi Party during the years 1933-1938. The information in the rare 64-page heavily illustrated publication was assembled by Reichshauptamtsleiter and SA-Grüppenführer Hanns Oberlindober.

Hanns Oberlindober was a World War I veteran who was badly wounded while leading a Bavarian Pionierkompanie in 1918. He became a member of Parliament representing the NSDAP in 1930 and during the Third Reich he was the leader of the NSDAP-Hauptamt für Kriegsopfer (the Nazi Party Government Office for War Victims) and the NS-Kriegsopferversorgung e.V. (NSKOV, the Nazi welfare organization for wounded veterans). He was on the board of many veteran related organizations and sponsored laws in parliament related to veteran issues. At the end of World War II he became an American POW and in 1948 he was extradited to Poland. Oberlindober died in a hospital in Warsaw in April 1949 at age 53.
This rare 7-3/8 x 10-1/8 inch, 64-page NSKOV publication starts with full-page photo portraits of Adolf Hitler, Rudolf Hess and Hermann Göring followed by a patriotic Hitler quote from Mein Kampf about the heroic deeds of German soldiers.

Subjects covered are the history, development and administration of the organization for the care of German World War I veterans by the Nazi Party since 1930. Chapters include:
caring for comrades who sacrificed for the fatherland and giving them a voice, medals for war veterans, medical care facilities for wounded soldiers, insurance and financial help for war widows (of Officers and ordinary soldiers) and their children, financial help for blind war veterans and brain damaged war veterans, employment for wounded war veterans, the NSKOV in Austria after its reunification with Nazi Germany, homes and housing developments built for veterans by the NSKOV, the Press Department of the NSKOV, etc.
5 Jahre Arbeit für Führer und Volk was published by Deutsche Kriegsopferversorgung GmbH in Berlin in 1938. This rare original 85 year old example is complete and in very nice used condition. No writing, no odor.

The idea behind Tunnel-to-Towers and Wounded Warrior-type organizations that provide care and housing for wounded Americans veterans was serious practise in Nazi Germany 80+ years ago!
