THE 320-PAGE 1941 HARDCOVER PHOTO BOOK

This splendid heavily illustrated 7 x 9-½ inch, 320-page hardcover book was published by Carl-Röhrig Verlag of Munich, Germany in 1941 with the permission of Gustav Memminger of the Reichsjugendführung or State Youth Leadership. Memminger was the Leiter des Presse- und Propagandaamts der HJ and wrote the three-page introduction to Hitlerjugend, das Erlebnis einer großen Kameradschaft. He also served in the Wehrmacht during the invasion of the Soviet Union.
This is a very nice 83 year old hardcover First Edition of the Nazi photo book Hitlerjugend, das Erlebnis einer großen Kameradschaft (Hitler Youth, the Experience of Great Camaraderie) by Reinhold Sauttner with a foreword by Artur Axmann, Jugendführer des Deutschen Reich.
This book has a heavy emphasis on the benefits of teamwork, competitive sports and a common cause that brings out the best in every young person resulting in healthy, well-adjusted adults prepared to work and fight for the future of Nazi Germany.
There are patriotic Adolf Hitler quotes, an explanation of the HJ Leistungsabzeichen (HJ Sports Proficiency Badge), an architectural drawing of the Hitler Youth Home Waldhausen, and many cartoon-like pen and ink illustrations accompanying the text. The photos are fully indexed on the last two pages of the book.
The 320 pages of Hitlerjugend, das Erlebnis einer großen Kameradschaft are filled with photos of German boys and girls of many ages playing sports, shooting rifles, making wooden toys, playing with model boats, camping, marching, skiing, Marine-HJ, Flieger-HJ, Motor-HJ, Nachrichten-HJ, theater plays, painting porcelain, musical performances, helping farmers with the harvest, participating in the Reichsberufswettkampf, WHW charity collections, and even meeting Italian fascist youth.
The hardcover book describes the four divisions of the Hitler Youth:
- Deutsche Jungvolk Pimpfe (10-14 year old boys)
- the regular HJ for 14-18 year old boys
- JM or Jungmädel (10-14 year old girls)
- the BdM, the Bund deutscher Mädel for 17 - 21 year old young women.
