The Deutsche Luftsport-Verband (DLV or German Air Sports Association) was an organization set up by the Nazi Party in March 1933 to establish a uniform basis for the training of military pilots. Its chairman was Hermann Göring and its vice-chairman Ernst Röhm. This very heavily illustrated oversized magazine Deutscher Luftsport 1934/35 was published to commemorate two years of existence

The publication is filled with photos of DLV aviation events of the past year including the Deutschlandflug, a fly-over by DLV airplanes on Labor Day in Berlin, HJ sailplane competitions, Luftfaht-Werbewoche (Aviation Recruiting Week), a Zeppelin event open to the public, DLV air balloons (including Freiballon “Hermann Göring”), an Aviation Exhibition in Berlin, sailplane events in South America and Finland, aviation schooling and research,
as well as events organized by provincial DLV chapters in East Prussia, Pomerania, Nordmark, Rhineland, Bavaria, Saxony and others.

The photos include many well-known high-ranking National Socialists such as Aviation Minister Hermann Göring, State Secretary of Aviation Erhard Milch, General von Blomberg, Deputy Führer Rudolf Hess piloting his own airplane, Hitler in uniform and civilian clothes meeting with pilots, Ernst Udet in front of his 800 hp Curtis-Hawke one-seater, as well as many pictures of young aviation enthusiasts, airplanes and sailplanes, the booth of the DLV at the Berlin Auto Show, even the DLV band and orchestra in action!

This original 86+ year old example of Deutscher Luftsport 1934/35 is complete and in nice used condition. The front and back cover show moderate wear and staining on the back cover, but the glossy pages are in very nice condition. No odor.

Hans-Georg Schulze of the DLV was responsible for the content of this 9 x 13-¼ inch, 32-page example of Deutscher Luftsport 1934/35 and it was published for the DLV by Deutsche Arbeit - Deutsches Wesen Verlag of Frankfurt and Berlin. Readers with an interest in the Third Reich might find it interesting that the Berlin office of this publishing house was on Bendlerstrasse 37, just down the street from the German Army High Command on Bendlerstrasse 13, in the courtyard of which people implicated in the failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler’s life in July 1944 were executed. The street now bears the name of one of them, Colonel Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg.
