During the Third Reich German citizens could purchase a Schmuckblattelegramm or decorative telegram at post offices, telephone offices and telegraph offices in Nazi Germany for special occasions such as a wedding, anniversary, birth or death. Each is a huge folder measuring about 11-3/4 x 16 inches printed on heavy, high-quality cardstock (they fold to 8-1/4 x 11-3/4 inches so they can be delivered in an envelope).
The best artists in Germany were commissioned to create powerful, popular images that were good enough to send when one wanted something beyond a regular telegram. The cost was only 75 Reichspfennigs (30 US cents) more than a regular telegram!

On the front cover, the Brandenburg Gate, one of the Olympic rings and part of the wreath are printed in gold metallic ink. The Olympic bell on the back panel (shown below) also has gold metallic ink.
