This is a nice original example of the Festbuch Deutsche Kampfspiele Bayerisches Turnfest Nürnberg 1934, a heavily illustrated commemorative guidebook and program for the German Contact Sports & Gymnastics Festival held in Nuremberg from 20 - 29 July 1934. Patron of the games was Reichspräsident and Generalfeldmarschall Paul von Hindenburg, who also was an Ehrenbürger of the city of Nürnberg.

Of special interest to German tinnie collectors is a nice, rare ad (among many ads) for the famous Nürnberg medal and badge manufacturing company L. Christian Lauer.

We suspect this 85 year old Festbuch was owned by a participant in the Gymnastics Festival since the book is accompanied by a 4-panel brochure containing a letter (shown directly below) and schedules for special trains for participants.

This was the first such sport event in 'the new Nazi Germany' according to Reichssportführer Hans von Tschammer und Osten in the introduction. And, the fact that these games took place in Nürnberg, the City of Nazi Party Days, was an additional connection to the spirit of the new National Socialist Germany.

There is also a foreword and full-page portrait photo of Frankenführer Julius Streicher, as well as an introduction by and photo of the Lord Mayor of Nuremberg, Willy Liebel. These are followed by photos of medals for the winners, souvenir pins and coins produced for the sport festival.

This 5-¼ x 7-½ inch, 118-page heavily illustrated softcover publication has a few illustrated pages covering important sites and the history of the city of Nürnberg, the zoo, information about special entrance prices for historical sights during the sport event, followed by a full schedule of the 18th Bavarian State Gymnastics Festival and the German Contact Sports Games.

There is information about sport event times and locations, tickets prices, German and world record holders for different sports, and public transportation. The last two pages of this book show a public transportation map of Nürnberg.

We have seen commemorative coins and pins for this 1934 Nazi sport event, but we have never owned or sold this Festbuch Deutsche Kampfspiele Bayerisches Turnfest Nürnberg 1934. It is complete and in nice used condition. The cover is a bit dirty but the interior pages are in very nice used condition. No writing, no notes, nothing torn out.
