The lessons learned early-on by the German Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front in Russia during World War II were not wasted. The Oberkommando des Heeres paid close attention and produced a 4-1/8 x 5-3/4 inch 32-page heavily illustrated Taschenbuch or pocket book for the benefit of Kraftfahrer or motor vehicle personnel. The foreword mentions that this Taschenbuch should be carried by every Wehrmacht driver as it contains valuable information to keep motorized vehicles properly moving under difficult winter circumstances.
As the name implies the Taschenbuch für den Kraftfahrer im Winter (Pocket Book for Drivers in Winter) contains information about starting vehicles in a very cold climate - regular engines, diesel engines and even cars or trucks powered by wood gas generators. It tells how to keep a vehicle running during very cold weather and how to care for it in very cold climates, etc., etc.
Illustrations include an air bubble viscosimeter, several kind of lamps, blow torches and heaters, that work well in cold climates, prepping and filling up a diesel engine, and other valuable information.

This is a very fine original example of the August 1942 edition, not a modern reproduction. It comes with an original Third Reich Übertragungskarte or motor vehicle transfer card which was not used. It has no writing on it.
This 1942 Taschenbuch für den Kraftfahrer im Winter is fully indexed and in very good, barely used condition. Handwritten name of original owner on the front cover. This book should be reprinted for its value to a much wider audience 70+ years after it was first published.
