Ernst Vollbehr was a very well-known German combat artist during World War I. His colorful watercolors are among the best of the war. When the Nazis came to power in Germany, he turned his talents to recording the construction of the Reichsautobahn system - Adolf Hitler’s Super Highways.

In this 6 x 9 inch book called ,,Die Straßen Adolf Hitlers’’ (Roads of Adolf Hitler) there are reproduction of 60 of Vollbehr’s very best Reichsautobahn paintings and about 40 pages of text (about 100 pages in all).

They depict every aspect of Autobahn construction from cutting trees to staking out the roadway, to excavating, bridge work, pouring concrete, building the Alpenstrasse, etc.

There is a Foreword by Nazi construction czar and Inspector General of German Highways, Dr. Fritz Todt. Every painting has an excellent caption identifying the scene.

The cloth spine shows some wear and the last painting in the book and the three pages that follow it are stained and dirty, but all the other pictures are excellent. The book was published by Hase & Koehler Verlag in Leipzig. Rare and in good condition.
