RARE ORIGINAL NAZI WOVEN PATCH OR INSIGNE

Nazi sleeve patch München

A WOVEN
SLEEVE
INSIGNE
FROM THE
UNIFORM OF
A THIRD REICH
ERA EMPLOYEE
OF THE CITY
OF MÜNCHEN
(MUNICH)

This beautifully woven patch or sleeve insigne measures 2-1/2 inches wide by 3 inches tall (63 x 75 mm) and depicts the colorful “Wappen” or coat of arms of the city of München (Munich), Germany, “the Capital of the [Nazi] Movement” on a white field.
The same Wappen is still in use by the city of Munich today, showing a religious monk in robes with a book in his left hand in front of the famous Isar gate, but WITHOUT the Nazi eagle and swastika. The eagle and swastika was added to the city’s ancient logo by Adolf Hitler during the Third Reich, in honor of the importance of München to the Nazi Party (NSDAP).

This patch is still sewed to a remnant to the black wool uniform from which it was removed. Our scan on the right is from page 16 of the book “München Baut Auf” published in 1938, and shows an identical patch on the upper left sleeve of the uniform of a München city streetcar conductor.

Very rare and in very good condition.
