This is a beautifully styled original Nazi rifle battalion or mountain rifle regiment Officer's Schirmmütze or visor cap made by the well-known Third Reich manufacturer, Clemens Wagner of Braunschweig and Hamburg for some Wehrmacht Officer who could afford to do it right.
The grey-green doe skin cap is trimmed with light green piping and has original hand-made silver bullion emblems on dark green cloth sewed on the front and a nice original silver cap cord held in place with non-magnetic pebbled buttons.

There are two tiny holes along the left side of the very top of the cap, marked in our photo with a red arrow. There are also a pair of very small holes on the bottom side of the top of the cap in the right rear quadrant that can only be seen if you hold the cap upside down (also see photo below).
The inside of the cap needs more explanation. We bought this cap from a local woman who got it from her father when he passed away. In the years after World War II her brother played with it and detached parts of the lining and the visor. Her mother re-attached the visor by sewing it on to each side at the back corners and at the center of the front. We have carefully photographed the inside so you can see the wear at the back and the condition of the sweatband, and how the sweatband is detached around the front.
The lining inside the top of the cap is completely original in a golden color with the Clemens Wagner Erstklassig logo printed in the center. About 30% of the original diamond shaped plastic that covers the logo remains.

The dark green band above the visor is also soft dark green doe skin wool. The typical enameled fiber visor is in nice condition with a couple of small chips in the edge. The inside of the visor is tan colored.
There is still an ancient original piece of paper on which the owner could have written his name under the piece of plastic that remains.
This cap is in nice enough condition on the outside that it could easily be displayed on a mannequin head or a cap fixture just the way it is. A little hand sewing could make the inside of this cap look far better than it does at the moment.
