This is a beautifully made big pressed steel toy with rubber tires and wheels that steer, that looks exactly like the postal busses that carried passengers and mail between smaller towns in Germany during the Third Reich of Adolf Hitler.

We could not find a color picture of an original Nazi postal / passenger bus but we found one that shows a very similar postal mail truck at Tempelhof Airport in Berlin, Germany in 1940.

This heavy 5 pound toy is about 16 inches long, 8 inches tall by 5-1/2 inches wide. The five wheels have steel centers and gray rubber tires. The direction of the front wheels maybe changed by turning the steering wheel inside the bus. The is a driver’s seat, three rows of double seats with an aisle down the center, and a rear seat. The entire toy is made out of heavy, durable stamped steel that has been welded together!

There is a luggage rack on top of the bus, and laying in it a spare tire. In the white band that trims the side of the bright red bus are the words Deutsche Reichspost (German State Postal System) and below the band a black eagle clutching a wreath with a swastika in it.

On the bottom of the bus there is a decal (not a sticker) with the name of the manufacturer, and next to the decal the word PROTOTYPE is stamped in the metal under the paint.

This bus is quite old - we have owned it for around 20 years. We are told it resembles Flivver toys made by an American toy company (Buddy L?) in the 1930s and those made in Germany by Märklin during the same period. We are not toy experts, but this very rare one-of-a-kind toy bus could be the centerpiece of any Third Reich toy collection. It has never been played with and is in excellent original condition.
