This is a wonderful and very specific book. It is a rare example of the 6 x 8-1/4 inch, 404 page directory of Grossdeutschlands Heilbäder, Seebäder, Kurorte und Versandheilwässer as of 1 April 1939.
This 12th edition of the book was published by the German State Tourist Association and lists all of Greater Germany's health resorts, along with specific information about each of them and the curative aspects of the air, water, and other natural features.
The book is divided into resorts with special air, special climates, special curative practices, etc. The main section of the book is divided alphabetically by towns and cities, listing their elevation, general location, specialty, seasons, sports facilities, cultural facilities, medical facilities, and cost. A whole section of the book deals with the kind of water found at each spa and the effects that it has on health. The book is fully indexed.

The kinds of places described in this book were not just popular in the Nazi days, but are still popular today in Germany. People with real or imagined illnesses are encouraged to seek the benefits of fresh air and water (and government healthcare picks up the bill). Somewhat similar to the snake oil salesman of the American frontier, these German spas had no problem convincing the German population of the benefits of radium water and other dangerous substances.
While the ad shown left for Bad Orb does not appear in this book, there is a half page of information about the spa town in the Spessart region which treated heart, nerve and rheumatism disorders and "Didn't Welcome Jews".
