Nazi Rahmenausweis
III. Reich Rahmenausweis
Nazi Ausweis
Geheim!
Black Hills Ordnance Depot ID, Igloo SD
Few collectors have ever held one of these German World War II high security identity documents in their hand, and fewer yet have even the slightest idea about what they are or what they were for. During World War II many defense industry workers in Germany, like their counterparts in America (see the Black Hills Ordnance Depot ID, right), were issued fairly complex, non-transferable, hard to alter Identity Documents (IDs) that were effective in controlling access to facilities that conducted research or manufactured weapons, aircraft, vehicles, strategic products, war materiel or components.
The universal style war-time Defense Plant ID in Germany during the Third Reich was the patented Rahmenausweis or metal-framed identity document. The outer frame of these Nazi IDs is a single piece of thin blued sheet steel, embossed with outlines to make it rigid, which when folded top to bottom and crimped at each side results in an approximately 3 x 4 inch (75 x 100 mm) rectangle containing three open panels. There are two panels on the front side and a single large panel on the back. As supplied by the manufacturer, the frames were stamped below the small panel on the right side with the words 2 D.R.P. AUSLANDSPAT. This stands for Deutsches Reich Patent Auslandspatent which translates to "Patented in Germany and Abroad."
The rare Rahmenausweis ID for sale on this USMBOOKS web page was issued on 1 August 1934 to E. Bremer, the owner of a locksmith shop born in 1899. His original ID photo is still visible under the plastic transparent surface.

Bremer was a member of the Handwerkkammer in Aachen and this Chamber of Commerce Department issued the official professional identity document number B3 4 037. It allowed him to be an independent locksmith, and since entry to businesses, government facilities and homes was part of that job, an official security ID was necessary.
This rare Third Reich Rahmenausweis is in nice original condition and GUARANTEED to be absolutely authentic Third Reich material. It shows honest wear.

The protective plastic on this 85 year old Amtliches Berufsausweis has discolored and is missing from the panel next to Bremer's ID photo. As a result, the handwritten entries (name, address, date of birth) have faded.

Condition exactly as shown above.
