This Third Reich document lot consists of original Deutsche Reichspost savings account material. It is a red Postal Savings Bank (Account Pass) Book (Postsparbuch) and red card stock Postal Savings Bank Book Account Card (Postsparbuch Ausweiskarte) as well as the remaining Rückzahlscheine or withdrawal slips for this specific account..

The account book and card had to be presented together by the account owner to make a deposit or withdrawal from an account. For withdrawals up to RM 100 yellow Rückzahlungsscheine (repayment slips) were required, and for withdrawals in excess of RM 100 orange Kündigungsscheine (request for return of money slips) were needed.
This material is for account number 219.858 (all numbers in this lot match) and the account holder was Karl Laa, a Hauptmann who lived on Adolf-Hitler-Platz 34 in Korneuburg, just north of Nazi Germany’s second largest city, Wien. He made deposits and withdrawals between 20 May 1942 and March 1947 (!) in amounts ranging from 100 Reichsmarks to 1035 Reichsmarks.

This material is 100% original to the Third Reich and in nice used condition, exactly as shown.

The Third Reich ad shown left is from the 1940 House of German Art catalog and is for reference only.

Deutsche Reichspost Postsparbuch used between 1942 and 1947
Every book and card combination came with a supply of the orange and yellow withdrawal slips bearing the same account number as the card and book. All transactions were entered in the pass book by date and amount, signed for by a postal clerk and stamped with the same date stamp that the post office used to cancel postage stamps on letters. A convenient aspect of the system was that one could get money from or pay money into an account in any post office in Germany. The backside of the Ausweiskarte was blank.
