The Ehrenkreuz der deutschen Mutter or "Cross of Honor for German Mothers" was instituted as a German national medal in December 1938. On Mothers Day, 21 May 1939, the first awards of the "Mother's Cross" were made by Adolf Hitler, Germany's 23rd Chancellor Adolf Hitler.

It was awarded in three classes and they are: BRONZE for mothers with four or five children, SILVER for mothers with six or seven children, and GOLD for mothers with eight or more children. The medal was made in the shape of a stylized blue and white enameled Latin Cross with a sunburst behind it. Where the arms cross there is a disk bearing a swastika and the lettering DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER (The German Mother). On the back is the date on which the medal was authorized above a facsimile of Hitler's signature.
This is a 3-3/8 x 4-¾ inch, 4-panel document regarding the Ehrenkreuz der deutschen Mutter or Honor Cross of the German Mother. This original Third Reich Merkblatt explains exactly when, when not, how and how not to wear the Nazi Mother's Cross, the regular size version and the miniature lapel version.

While hundreds of thousands of examples of the Merkblatt über das Tragen der Ehrenkreuze der deutschen Mutter were distributed in Adolf Hitler's Germany, few of these original Nazi era regulations survived into the 21st century. Rare and in nice used condition, exactly as shown above.

Ehrenkreuz der deutschen Mutter or Honor Cross of the German Mother
ORIGINAL THIRD REICH REGULATIONS FOR WEARING
THE NAZI MOTHER'S CROSS
Ehrenkreuz der deutschen Mutter or Honor Cross of the German Mother
All classes of the medal were worn around the recipient's neck on a long blue and white ribbon, or in a miniature cersion on the lapel of a jacket or uniform. The medal was not supposed to be worn every day, but only on holidays (Christmas, Easter, Hitler's Birthday, etc.) or special family occasions (weddings, birthdays, etc.) and one was only allowed to wear it on the blue and white ribbon, not attach it to any brooch or necklace!  These regulations were clearly stated in the original Third Reich Merkblatt we offer for sale below.
An absolutely original Third Reich maker marked Nazi Mother's Cross, the miniature gold version for German mothers with eight or more children.    It is complete with its original ribbon and pin and was produced for every day wear. Manufactured in Nazi Germany by the L. Christian Lauer firm of Nürnberg (LDO mark L/14), a company that also produced other Nazi medals and orders.  Condition exactly as shown.
