PAIR OF FINE GERMAN CAR BADGES

German car badges
THE BEST
GERMAN
CAR BADGES
WE HAVE
FOUND IN
OVER 25
YEARS!
The German tradition of placing beautifully made badges on automobiles to commemorate special events is almost as old as automobiles themselves. Such badges were often made to fit on a bar between the front bumper and the headlights, or were sometimes bolted directly to the sheet metal of a car or motorcycle as shown above. Badges came in all sizes from small to large and in a range of quality from cheap to very, very fine. Over the years we have bought and sold hundreds of vintage German car badges but the two big event badges we offer here are the very best we have ever found.
AVUS BERLIN 4th Grunewald Rally
1956
Avus Berlin
This big 3-1/4 x 3-3/4 inch, three piece die-struck metal badge has a crowned Berlin bear standing inside blue and gold rings above the emblem of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil Club (ADAC). All colors on the badge are rendered in hard fired cloisonné (melted glass, not paint) with the exception of gold and the bronze colored bear. The mounting holes are 2-7/16 inches apart on center. The Avus is an extremely well-known Third Reich race course on the west side of the city of Berlin.

This splendid badge was made by one of Germany’s most prominent makers, Boerger & Co. in Berlin just ten years after the end of World War II. It is a superb badge in very good condition.
