Rudolf Caracciola
Mercedes-Benz race car
During the mid - to - late 1930s nobody in Europe had a race car research and development program that even came close to the enormous success of the Mercedes-Benz effort. The friendship between Germany’s 23rd Chancellor Adolf Hitler and Mercedes-Benz director Jakob Werlin, combined with Hitler’s pride in and endorsement of Mercedes-Benz products, set the stage for the resurgence and European dominance of the Stuttgart-Untertürkenheim based car and truck manufacturer.

The Mercedes-Benz racing division produced a special desk calendar in a size of 6-3/4 x 10-1/4 inches in which each page contained a beautiful race photo measuring about 4 x 6 inches. At the bottom of each page was a grid of boxes for each of three days subdivided into hourly segments from 8 to 18 (08:00 am to 6:00 pm) hours.
