This Iron Cross First Class was brought back to the United States in September 1945 by an American Technical Sergeant who served in combat with the US Third Armored Division in Europe during World War II. We will be happy to supply the buyer with a print out of a picture of that GIs dogtag.
This Iron Cross was never in the hands of a collector since September 1945 until we purchased it from the estate of the GI 67 years later.
We believe the magnetic iron center was repainted at one time as was often the case with combat worn medals during the Third Reich.
The Iron Cross has 100% of its original patina on the silver metal frame and pin. The medal is marked with the LDO or Leistungsgemeinschaft der deutschen Ordenhersteller ((Standards Association of German Order Manufacturers) number L/58 for the firm of Artur Jokel of Gablonz.
This is an absolutely honest World War II Nazi Iron Cross First Class in very nice used condition, probably repainted but with 100% of its original patina
