The JB or Illustrierter Beobachter was the Nazi Party weekly photo newspaper published in München (Munich) by Verlag Franz Eher Nachfolger, but read by just about everybody, all over Germany. Each 10 x 14 inch issue contained about 24 pages of the very latest news, photographs and information gathered from around the world. The excellent paper was published every Thursday and sold for only 20 Reichspfennigs, the equivalent of 12 US cents.

This Sonderheft or special issue explains in detail and with dozens of large photographs just how important the existence of the German Luftwaffe was in the Anschluss or reunification of Germany with Austria in April 1938. The lightning quick response of Hermann Göring and the luftwaffe left no question in the minds of doubters and the annexation took place in the most peaceful possible manner. A rare issue of JB in fine condition.

Articles, photos and features include Benito Mussolini’s 59th birthday and his Office in Rome, Cossacks in field gray, the “Wolchow Express”, the Battle of Sebastopol, Girls from Hamburg in the Bavarian Mountains, the Battle of Stalingrad, the Fieseler Storch as a Scouting Plane, new illustrations of the enormous Deutsche Stadion on the Reichsparteitag Grounds in Nuernberg, and an extremely sarcastic full-page cartoon of the Australian Army in training without weapons (spitting on targets, urinating on targets, etc.).
