Hofbräuhaus München
The Hofbräuhaus was founded in 1598 by Bavarian Duke Wilhelm V
This is a colorful Urkunde vom Kgl. Hofbräuhaus München (Certificate from the Royal Hofbräuhaus Munich) probably from around 1920 or the very early part of the Nazi revolution in Munich. Based on the skyline of the Munich on the certificate, as well as the interior decoration of the upper and lower halls, the Trinkstube and Kartenzimmer, we would say that this undated piece designed by F. Mederer and published by the Graphisches Kunstanstalt A. Huber of Munich is a souvenir from the 1920, or the very time when Hitler was speaking frequntly at the beer hall.
The art panels on the 9 x 24-1/4 inch Urkunde show the site of the Hofbräuhaus from the Middle Ages up through modern times. The panel beneath the portrait in the middle gives a recap of the history of the building, business and its founder Bavarian Duke Wilhelm V.
Oberer Saal where Hitler held many speeches
Also pictured are the historic beer hall itself, the outside courtyard, the card room, the Oberer Saal or huge upstairs hall where Hitler held many political speeches early in his career (on 24 February 1920 he proclaimed the 25-point National Socialist Program), etc.

We are sure that this certificate was sold as a souvenir at the Hofbräuhaus beer hall to tourists probably in the 1920s and 1930s. This one has been laminated to keep it from tearing along old fold lines or disintegrating. We have never seen another one.
