The color picture on the dust jacket shows one of Adolf Hitler’s favorite scenes in the area where he was born, “A View of the Hütteneckalm Looking at the Hallstätter Lake and Dachstein Mountain” by Ferdinand Waldmüller (1793 - 1865). Included in the book is an original Third Reich printed slip that offers to sell a copy of the Waldmüller painting in its original size for 20 Reichsmarks.
Approximately half of this book is text covering the origins of Oberdonau or the Upper Danube area and explaining the sort of people who have lived there and the commerce carried on in the region. The back half of the book is composed of photographs of the people and places of Oberdonau with a concentration on places connected with Nazi Führer and German Chancellor Adolf Hitler. There are pictures of Hitler’s mother, his boyhood home, Hitler as a student, the town of Braunau am Inn, Gauleiter August Eigruber, Hitler’s first school, Hitler and Nazi troops entering his homeland, etc.
One of the two maps is a detailed map of Oberdonau and the other is a map of Greater Germany showing where Oberdonau fits into it. Both of the maps trace the travel of the Führer at the bottom.
This is the best example of Oberdonau die Heimat des Führers that we have ever offered and it comes with its original dust jacket, laminated to preserve it. Very good condition.
