NAZI BIOGRAPHY OF PILOT HELMUT WICK

This is a nice example of the rare 6-1/8 x 8-3/4 inch, 128 page, heavily illustrated softcover book ,,Helmut Wick - das Leben eines Fliegerhelden’’ (Helmut Wick - the Life of a Flying Hero) as published by Verlag Scherl in Berlin for ,,Der Adler’’ in 1943.

Wick was of course, one of the great heroes of the Luftwaffe of Hermann Göring. A renowned Me109 fighter pilot and winner of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves on a par with other remarkable pilots like Ernst Udet, Mölders, Galland, etc.

On the occasion of his 40th victory in the air, Adolf Hitler presented him with the Oak Leaves to his Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross at the Berghof on the Obersalzberg, above Berchtesgaden, Germany (shown left).

This 60+ year old book has yellowed with age but is otherwise in very good condition.
